Closing Talk: Qcd Moriond 2006

چکیده

One of the advantages of giving the closing talk at a conference with only plenary sessions, is that a summary is certainly superfluous. I shall take full advantage of that freedom in my talk and present only a few topics. In the infinite momentum frame (IMF) a proton or nucleus is seen as a Lorentz contracted disk, and xg(x, Q 2) is the number of gluons per unit rapidity of transverse size less than 1/Q on that disk. At small x the number of gluons becomes so large that there is a saturation in the growth of the number of gluons. As a consequence of this saturation, the total virtual-photon proton scattering cross section satisfies a geometrical scaling law 1 as shown in Fig. 1, σ(x, Q 2) → σ(τ), τ = Q 2 /Q 2 s (x), Q s (x) = (x/x 0) λ , λ = 0.3. (1) Q s (x) is the x-dependent saturation scale. Recent work in this area is beginning to look in more detail at the region near and beyond the saturation boundary. 2,3 While there is geometrical scaling in the region close to the saturation

QCD IN BEAUTY DECAYS: SUCCESSES AND PUZZLES Talk at XXXIXth Rencontres de Moriond: QCD and Hadronic Interactions

The status of the heavy quark expansion for inclusive B decays is briefly reviewed from the perspective of confronting theory with data and of extracting the heavy quark parameters. A good agreement between properly applied theory and new precision data is observed. Some recent applications to the exclusive heavy flavor transitions are addressed. I recall the ‘ 1 2 > 3 2 ’ paradox for the trans...

Moriond 2009, Qcd and High Energy Interactions: Theory Summary

Of the O (100) talks that were given at this year’s “Moriond QCD”, about one third were theoretical. As usual with the Moriond conference, the range of topics covered was rather broad, and the logic that I will follow in discussing them will be to progress in the total energy that is involved — that will take us from non-perturbative QCD, through perturbative QCD and the data-theory interface a...

Introduction Aux Fonctions De Structure

The theory of deep inelastic scattering structure functions is reviewed with an emphasis put on the QCD expectations of their behaviour in the region of small values of the Bjorken parameter x. La théorie des fonctions de structure de diffusion profondement inélastique est présentée avec une attention particulière consacrée aux prévisions de la Chromodynamique Quantique de leur comportement dan...

Next-to-leading order parton fragmentation functions into light mesons are presented. They have been extracted from real and simulated ee data and used to predict inclusive single particle distributions at different machines.
